It's Not Every Day. . .
. . . That you get to hand feed a golden eagle. But I got to do just that on my shift at WildCare Sunday. Steve held it (and its massive talons) while I shoved mouse bits down its throat. No pictures this time, maybe next week if it is still there.
But here's a picture of Steve holding an osprey, another raptor we don't see very often. It's a fish eating raptor!

Wow. Steve looks a little tentative. (I know I would be) I'll try not to think too much about the "mouse bits."

Actually, Steve is always very confident when handling raptors (and all the animals, really). I've seen people who are tentative try to catch and hold a raptor and, trust me, this isn't the look. I don't think the animal would be in control enough to have its picture taken in that case. : )
No, Steve's doing just what he should - paying attention to the animal in his hands so Paulette (next to him) and perform an exam without getting taloned.
